How It Works (electricity NEM for residential)

Net Energy Metering (NEM) 3.0 is a program that allows homeowners with solar PV systems to sell excess electricity back to the grid and receive credits for it. The credits can then be used to offset future electricity bills. NEM 3.0 operates in two phases:

Day Time Night Time

  • The solar PV system generates energy that is used by home appliances and exported to the grid.

  • The solar PV system stops working, but homeowners can still use electricity from the grid as normal.

  • The imported energy is recorded by the NEM meter and charged to the homeowner each month.
Day Time
